**Updated 5/2/24**
You know it’s really spring when you start to see fiddlehead ferns! Longtime Co-op forager Chris Clarke has responsibly and sustainably harvested these seasonal treats in Vermont and New Hampshire for us again this spring. When selecting your fiddleheads to purchase look for those that are bright, firm and about an inch in diameter. Make sure you boil your fiddleheads for 10 minutes before using them in a recipe – boiling fiddleheads is key to removing a natural toxin.
Outdoors we’re finishing up with pansies from Four Springs and hoping to see pansies in wooden boxes from Jenny Wright in Claremont, NH this weekend. We’ve also got plenty of organic herb starts from Honey Field Farm for you to take home and nurture throughout the summer.
New/Returning Items:
- Root 5 Farm – Organic bunched chives, arugula, scallions
- Sunny Brook Farm – chives (WRJ only)
Done for the Season:
- Four Springs Farm – pansies in fiber pots
Watch Out For
- Pansies in wooden boxes from Jenny Wright in Claremont, NH expected anytime.
- MacLennan asparagus should be ready in the next couple of weeks.
- Killdeer organic spinach expected to arrive in stores over the next week or so.

What Local Means to Us
Long before "local" was incorporated into the positioning statement of every giant discount megastore, it was a cornerstone to the work of food cooperatives.
Like the organic and green movements, the local movement had an early champion in food co-ops, who for decades have been touting the need to preserve networks of small family farms and independent food producers.
